The Animal Law Section of The Florida Bar presented its 2025 Outstanding Achievement Award to Dr. Adam Stern for his significant contributions to animal welfare in Florida.
Dr. Stern, an internationally recognized expert in veterinary forensic science, has provided an impartial voice for animals in court, having testified in multiple jurisdictions within and outside of Florida. Dr. Stern currently coordinates three animal cruelty task forces throughout Florida and regularly educates various stakeholders about veterinary forensic science and procedures for investigating crimes against animals.
He has led transformative research in veterinary forensic pathology and other aspects of veterinary forensic science. Currently, Dr. Stern is studying mortality patterns among free-roaming cat populations to investigate their potential causes of death, including incidences of animal cruelty. His work has not only elevated the scientific rigor of veterinary forensic investigations but also informed policy and shelter practices across the country.
“I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition, which came as a total surprise,” said Dr. Stern. “This award reflects the collective effort of my entire team, who not only believe that every animal’s life matters but that forensic science can be a powerful tool for justice.”
Additionally, Dr. Stern has been instrumental in mentoring the next generation of veterinary students, veterinary forensic scientists, attorneys, and investigators, as he advocates for evidence-based approaches to animal protection. His leadership in veterinary forensic science has set a new standard for excellence in the field.
